“When we remodeled our laundry room we had to work with a very confined space for our washer and dryer. I knew there was no room for a standard dryer vent hose so, since I am an engineer, I began to think about what I might fabricate to easily couple the dryer with the vent. Fortunately, I discovered MagVent before I went to the trouble of building a custom made adapter. With the MV-90 I was able to slide my dyer into its very tight space and watch the MagVent magnetically couple with the vent outlet. Really cool! My wife said it was like watching the space shuttle dock in space.

"By far one of the easiest projects I’ve done!"

I have finally been able to install my MagVent and let me say it was by far one of the easiest projects I’ve ever done. It was so easy to install and connected on the first try. It was a little over two inches off but it was able to set itself right and I have had no issues. I was very limited with space and it helped give me a couple extra inches closer to the wall. Great product and very happy with the installation and directions to install.

I received my MV-90 today.  When I got home from work, I installed it.  My story is probably very familiar to you:

• We have a small laundry room, especially after we added a vertical storage cabinet to the right of the washer/dryer, which completely walled-in the dryer and the washer into a 60" space with wall cabinets above.

• We have a set of LG front-load units on pedestals.  We are expecting a new set to arrive on Saturday. So I wanted to improve the venting solution.

• Our house is set up for a dryer on the left; unfortunately the LG washer door is not reversible, so my wife wanted the washer to the left of the dryer to avoid door conflicts. 

• So that meant I had to run a vent from behind the washer to the right about 2.5 ft.  

• Last time I rebuilt the vent, I used the flexible, semi-rigid dryer vent , the kind that's fairly sturdy and not cheap. (This was not the vinyl fire hazard vent.)

• The problem was, whenever we pulled the dryer out, we almost had to remove the washer from the laundry room to hook-up the dryer vent again.  There was just no room to get back there without leaving a lot of extra vent (and I am neither skinny nor flexible anymore either).

• Of course that made it very difficult to clean and eventually the vent got partially crushed at the elbow into the wall.  

• Luckily our dryer vent-run to the outside outlet is only 18" from the laundry wall penetration, so it still worked fairly well.

• But when I took it apart to get ready for the new washer/dryer, last weekend,  I could not believe how much lint was stuck in the flex-vent duct.

I found your product while surfing the web looking for a better solution.  When I saw your product, I knew it was the right solution for me.  I applaud the engineering that went into this design. Bravo!

I just installed and test-fitted it to my old dryer.  There is no guarantee the new vent is in exactly the same place, but I took photos of an LG dryer similar to our new one at the store and it has to be close.  LG does not seem to have made any changes to the back of this class of dryer in the ten years since our last new one.

Parts for my new vent set-up:

1. One Whirlpool-brand, close-fit 90-degree 4-inch elbow from Amazon

2. One 2-foot x 4-inch aluminum rigid dryer vent and a couple of vent clamps from Home Depot

3. One short male-male 4-inch connector to give me the couple of extra inches I needed to put the MagVent into position

4. One 6" salmon cedar plank screwed to the wall to make it easier to position the MagVent bracket

5. I had the Nashua foil tape already.

I dry-fitted everything tonight and made sure my measurements were correct.  I then taped it all together, put vent clamps at all the unions and screwed it to the wall.  Perfect fit.

All in all, I am so happy with the results.  I don't think we will have the leaks that sent dryer lint to every corner of the room now that everything is rigid vent duct.  And I am expecting to be able to pull the dryer in and out without a headache every time.

(Oh - in case you are curious, the electric gizmos on my washer faucets are part of a FloodStop system.  It can detect water on the floor behind the washer and automatically shut off the water supply using those solenoid valves.  It is powered both with AC as well as a battery backup and works great.)

“A month ago the "Check Vent" warning light on the dryer lit up.  I have a stacked washer/dryer in a narrow closet, and wasn't eager to pull them out to clean the vent.

But I did, and it's a good thing.  Here are two pictures of the lint I cleaned out of the vent:

I hadn't found MagVent at that time, so I reinstalled the old vent and pushed the washer/dryer back into the closet, expecting that the lint problem would recur.  A look at the old vent shows why:

With that many twists and turns in the vent, it's a "made-to-order" lint catcher.

Then I found MagVent online and ordered it.

Installation was easy, except for having to pull the washer/dryer out of the closet again.  Here are the two pieces, attached to the wall and to the vent on the back of the dryer:

Then I pushed the appliances back into the closet.  Here's the view behind the dryer afterwards:

I had tied a string around the flexible piece of the vent and taped it to the top of my dryer so the vent wouldn't sag as I pushed the dryer back into the closet.

I expect better air flow, which should keep lint from getting trapped!

Another benefit:  as can be seen from the before and after pictures below, the washer and dryer sit back into the closet!

A great product, easy to install.  It allows the dryer to sit back closer to the wall, and I expect that it will reduce the risk of lint build-up in the vent, which reduces the risk of fire!

My dryer did not vent correctly prior to the installation of the MV-180.  There were two four-inch pieces of duct tubing stuck together, (see before picture), which caused lint to get caught at the point where they connected.  Someone had duct taped them together.  I needed to change the in the wall venting to be solid, and then I could attach your MV-180.

Part of my problem is that I live in an apartment on a second floor so I do not have access to a ladder and the outside vent.  By carefully bending the wall tubing I was able to get it to vent to the outside, (see through the duct).

Another issue that I had is to raise the dryer up about half an inch to bring the dryer connected tubing closer to the wall, so I installed some dampening cushions on the legs of the dryer, (see height risers).  This helped tremendously.  The height risers also provide sound deadening so my downstairs neighbor cannot hear when I run the dryer.

Like you all say, it’s really easy.  When I was finished, I just slid the dryer closer to the wall and the super magnets did the work of connecting the tubing to the wall, no leaks or anything.

After watching the installation video it was straight forward and simple connecting the MagVent 180. Not only did I have the challenge of dealing with a very tight space to work in, I also had a difference of 2.25 to 2.5 inches in height between the dryer and wall vents, No problem! Appears to have connected with a perfect seal.
Yet to operate the dryer but looking forward to a much more efficient drying process and anticipate no problems going forward, Appears to be the ideal product for my situation!

Our dryer wasn't drying.  So many wet towels were accumulating that we were draping them over our stair rails to dry them.

We hired a dryer vent cleaning specialist who spent 3 hours cleaning the lines with a variety of brushes and flexible extension poles on electric drills, from the roof outlet to the dryer below.  $220.  Still our dryer wasn't drying.

We bought a brand new Maytag dryer to replace the 11 year old one we had.  $500.  Still we couldn't get dry clothes.

We began just running the new dryer without the lint screen in, just to get dry clothes.  We got dry towels, but also a cloud of lint and hot air.

Because the problem was most likely crushing of the flexible duct when the dryer was pushed into position in the utility closet, I began trying to design some way of using rigid duct which would connect when the dryer was moved back towards the wall.  In my research on line, I was delighted to find you had already invented it!

The unit came quickly and soon I had it installed.  Aging flexible duct is an integral part of the house system, but fortunately the end fit perfectly over the cylinder at the rear of your wall component.  The dryer end went on perfectly and soon I was checking the magnetic connection by pressing it with a yardstick squeezed between the dryer and wall.

Finally we have dry towels.  Unfortunately, the house dryer duct system is neither short nor direct, but the dryer now works!
